I never understood how anyone could enjoy the quiet. I struggled to sleep for most of my life when I couldn’t hear servants walking up and down the halls or the murmurings of late night chats in nearby rooms. If anything, noticing how silent things were always made me tense, as if I was all alone on Azeroth. Obviously I grew up. And those silly notions were put far behind me. But that uncomfortable feeling when things were still never quite left me. It’s why I always favored port towns and major cities to quiet country cottages. And why, I never guessed why Ilyssae would have me happy to sit near her and just read. I glanced at her as I thought about it and asked myself, What is so different about you? Was it the way she cupped her cheek against a palm at certain passages. Or perhaps the way she turned the pages with a gentle pinch at the corners.
